Play with Ideas

• Get witty and come up with the perfect play on words or a clever rhyme. Remember that many jokes have a structure called the triple, in which the first two parts build up the joke, and the third delivers the punch line. Or your might use visual gags. For example, you could have a phrase above an image of a cartoon figure dancing with a box fan called "Fan Dance." Just get creative and jot down ideas whenever they come to you. Funny Quotes

• There are many quotations that you could use on t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other article of clothing. However, when using a quotation from another source, keep in mind that it might be copyrighted and that you might need permission before using it. In the United Stated anything 70 years beyond the life of the author is generally no longer protected by copyrighted law if it is an unpublished work. For published works, anything before 1923 is in the public domain. Checking copyright on slogans and images is especially important if you intend to sell your shirts.

• Remember to tailor your shirt ideas to fit the preferences of your targeted demographic group. For example, a funny beer-drinking shirt might be amusing to some, but depending on the slogan and design, it might not be so amusing to others, like your grandmother. Always consider first who you are trying to amuse. This will help you make someone smile and allow your shirt to successfully achieve its intended purpose.
