What Are Micro Links?
- The microlink is a small tube which slides onto the natural hair. The link's placement close to the skull allows the hair to grow naturally without showing the link or extension. The hair extension is then inserted into the microlink and clamped. The inside of the link has threads which help keep the hair in place for a solid hold.
- Microlinks come in a wide variety of colors. The stylist should match the microlink as closely as possible to the color of your natural or colored hair. Keeping the colors close will help further hide the fact the microlinks are there. Purchase microlinks at hair care shops or online in a variety of sizes typically between three and four millimeters in diameter.
- The installation of microlinks is a time-consuming process, as with any extension treatment. The advantage of microlinks is that the process does not require resins or other gluing chemicals. Small bundles of natural hair are gathered and connected to the microlink and the extension. A professional hair stylist can install a complete set of hair extensions using microlinks in one to two hours depending on the number of extensions she will use.
- Microlinks require treating the hair extensions just like your own real hair. Use shampoo and conditioner. You can blow dry the extensions and straighten them using a curling iron. With the extensions in place, it may take longer to fix your hair since you have more of it. Properly cared-for hair extensions can remain in place for up to four months before requiring removal.
