How Do I Become a Better Leader, Not Just a Student?

105 8
We are all students, everyone learns and continues to learn, but leadership is a choice.

See, we all start out as students and frankly, we continue to be students, which is good. Once you stop learning, you are finished. But we need to make the bridge between being a student and becoming a Better Leader. Not only for ourselves, but for those that we hope to work with.

From the time we are young, we are taught that we need to learn - learn in school, learn to ride your bike, learn better manners, etc. And its true that we never stop learning. But for some it is hard to move past being the €eternal student€ and someone who takes the lead.

But why is it hard for some? Well, you have to believe in the value you have to bring to the table, and that's not easy for everyone.

Some of us struggle to take that next step and never achieve the kind of results that we are looking for.

So which kind of a person are you?

Are You a Better Leader?

You go about your day-to-day duties, taking on all of the responsibilities of the day, and you think you've done everything that you need to make an impact. You've kept this routine for some time now and feel that it is working well for you and your leadership.

But, does anyone notice that you're becoming a Better Leader?

Do employees and those around you feel the impact of what you've done? See, although you may think that you're taking the right steps and moving your business forward, you may be static. You might think you're not, but you are!

Now this might be hard to swallow, but the information you take in has an expiration date. And the only way to extend it is through application.

Become a Better Leader

Yes, we need to apply what we learn on a constant basis. It's the student vs leader dual role that we need to play. We need to continuously learn, but we need to then apply it at the same time.

Someone told me not so long ago that if you are only learning and not teaching others, you are wasting your time learning. Now, I found this to be a bit of a stretch, but the more I applied the principle, the more results I could see and the more impact I could see in those I taught.

Even if this seems tough at first, it will be a natural transition if you commit to the process. Just keep working on it and know that you can become a Better Leader.
