How to Paint Kitchen Cupboards Without Sanding
- 1). Empty your cupboards. Remove all hardware from the cupboard doors using a screw driver. Set the hardware where it won't be exposed to paint splatter.
- 2). Place a drop cloth on the counter and/or the floor to protect surfaces from paint splatter and spills.
- 3). Wet a sponge in warm water and, using a degreasing cleaner, scrub the cupboard to remove old grease and dirt. Dry the cupboard with a clean towel. The cupboard must be completely dry before you apply primer or paint.
- 4). Ventilate the room by opening a window. Put on rubber gloves and safety goggles, then apply primer over all surfaces to be painted. Primer comes in spray and can forms. Spray or paint a thin layer of primer.
- 5). Allow the primer to dry completely. This may mean letting it sit overnight, depending on humidity. Check the product's label, but remember that your environment can affect drying time. When the surface is no longer tacky to the touch, it is dry.
- 6). Stir your paint, then apply a coat to the cupboard starting at the top and moving to the bottom.
- 7). Allow the first coat of paint to dry overnight. You will need to apply at least one more coat of paint for the best coverage and look. Wait until paint is fully cured -- this may take days, depending on the humidity level -- before replacing hardware.
