Are Latex Beds Prone to Mold?
- Produced from the rubber tree, natural latex is 100 percent biodegradable and mold resistant. Even without proper care and cleaning, mattresses made from this material are not prone to mold or bacteria.
- Unlike natural latex, synthetic latex is made through a petroleum-based chemical process. Although these mattresses are not naturally allergen resistant, they have been chemically treated so that they are not prone to bacteria or mold.
- Mattresses made from blends of natural and synthetic latex have become the most popular in recent years. Manufacturers of these blends generally aim to combine the softness and elasticity of natural latex with the consistency and durability of synthetic latex. These mattresses are moderately expensive and still retain their resistance to mold.
