Alloys

• The elemental components added to iron to produce steel are alloys. These are particular elements chosen for the improvement of certain physical characteristics of the steel, depending on the application. Examples of alloys with specific property-enhancing attributes include molybdenum for strength and chromium for corrosion resistance.
  
  

Composition

• All steel contains alloys or carbon. For the grade of steel to be of the low alloy variety, the alloys should make up no more than 5 percent of the total composition of the steel.
  
  

Uses

• Low alloy steel is known for its high strength, often referenced as "High Strength Low Alloy" steel. For this reason, low alloy steel is a trusted material for important applications, including cross-country pipelines, military vehicles, oil drilling platforms and structural materials.
