Heating and Cooling

• People have a unique advantage above many animals -- they can control their environmental temperature much more thoroughly. Animals often attempt to do this by living underground or finding a well-insulated area, but no animal comes close to the level of human's control of their surroundings -- which today usually relies on electricity. Central air conditioning systems make air cooler and distribute it throughout the home, while heating systems do the reverse.

• Prior to electric sources, information distribution was done via mail and newspaper delivery. Today, with the advent of television, radio and the Internet, information can be accessed from nearly any location in the world with electricity. This ensures that no one will be out of the loop for long.
  
  

Travel

• Like information, people travel at astounding rates every day. Due to the invention of air travel, people can now reach nearly any location on the globe within 24 hours -- assuming they have the funds to do so. Aircraft -- although relying heavily on mechanical structures -- also rely on electrical devices for effective travel. Without these tools that function off of electricity -- especially radio communication -- the airplane would be ineffective at traveling.
  
  

Person-to-Person Communication

• Like basic information, person-to person communication has also been enhanced tremendously via electric devices. Once upon a time, people had to rely upon standard mail to be delivered over the course of several days. Electricity stimulated the invention of the telegraph, which transmitted signals via an electrical line. This ultimately evolved into the telephone in the 1870s, which allowed voice-to-voice transmission. Later on, fax machines were invented. The digital revolution led to an assortment of personal communication methods, from fax and text to web-cams and instant messages.
