How to Clean House Plants & Toxic Mold
- 1). Remove the dead leaves and withered blooms from the plant ,as well as ones that have fallen onto the soil.
- 2). Rinse leaves with lukewarm water. Rinsing them in cold water may leave spots on the leaves of the plants.
- 3). Dust fuzzy leaved plants with a soft paint brush. Start at the base of the leaf and dust upward toward the tip.
- 4). Wipe the leaves of large plants with a soft cloth dampened in lukewarm water.
- 1). Put on a pair of rubber gloves, an N-95 respirator, which can be purchased at home improvement stores, and a pair of safety goggles without vent holes. Provide adequate air circulation by opening doors and windows, and running fans. Run a dehumidifier to remove the moisture from the air. Without moisture, mold cannot grow.
- 2). Pour 1 cup bleach, ¼ cup mild dishwashing liquid and 1 gallon of water into a spray bottle. Gently swirl the bottle around to mix the contents. Apply the solution to hard surfaces, such as plastic, metal, countertops and hard flooring. Let the solution sit on the surface for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the mixture and mold by wiping the surface with a damp cloth.
- 3). Set your washing machine to a cool setting and allow it to begin to fill with water. Add 1 cup of distilled white vinegar and enough laundry detergent for one load to the washing machine. Place washable items, such as fabrics, garments, blankets, towels and stuffed animals, inside the washing machine. Close the lid and allow the washer to run through a complete cycle. Remove the items from the washing machine and dry in a dryer.
