How to Write an Essay for Deathwatch
- 1). Introduce the story at the beginning of the essay. Explain the plot and the main characters. Set the story up for the reader by addressing the main theme in the story. Ben needs money for college so he agrees to aid Madec in hunting longhorn sheep since he is familiar with the area. Madec is stubborn and doesn't like to take directions.
- 2). Compare the characters in the book. Ben is honest and trustworthy, while Madec enjoys ripping people off. Discuss other differences between the two and elaborate on how the differences work in the story.
- 3). Analyze the "accident" with Madec and the elderly man. Explain why you think it was an accident or why it wasn't an accident. Include your thoughts on whether the shooting was preventable.
- 4). Follow Ben's path as he struggles to survive. Ben is alone, naked and in the wilderness, while Madec is literally hunting him. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of both men.
- 5). Discuss the courtroom scene when Ben is accused of lying. Elaborate on why Ben is or is not a believable character.
- 6). Finish by analyzing the courtroom outcome. Fill the reader in on why the town will never be the same. Express thoughts on Ben's final statements.
