Water Pitcher Plant Care
- Use low-fertility soil instead of nutrient-rich potting soil when planting the pitcher plant. Mixing one part sandbox sand with three parts sphagnum peat moss will work as a soil for the plant.
- Use a pot that does not drain for the pitcher plant. The sarracenia requires a consistently damp growing location, which a stopped-up pot will provide.
- Place the pots in direct sunlight. The pitcher plant requires around eight hours of sunlight every day. The plant will not thrive in a shaded location.
- Water the pitcher plant with distilled water instead of water from the tap or hose. The chemicals in tap water can damage the plant. Water enough to keep the soil consistently moist.
- Do not give the pitcher plant fertilizer. The plant itself attracts and catches flies and other insects for nutrients.
