"Wood slices" is simply a different term for various cuts of wood. Many wood slices are raw cuts such as chunks, branches and sticks or thin slices. Raw wood slices typically retain the bark and are rough cuts designed for woodworking. According to RusticWoodworking.com, raw wood slices have a wide variety of uses, including as walking sticks and door and window molding. - Wood chunk slices are simply short logs, reports RusticWoodworking.com. Wood chunks are often utilized for whittling projects or as candle holders, though the uses of wood chunks in woodworking are limited only by the imagination. Wood chunks are typically cylindrical and flat on each end and retain the bark, which you may have to remove. Some woodworkers prefer to leave and veneer the bark.
- Wood sticks or branches are often used to make walking sticks and table legs, states RusticWoodworking.com. Wood sticks and branches are generally the single main piece of a tree branch that a woodworker has removed offshoots from. Wood branches and sticks are frequently cut in half for various flat projects for which raw wood is desired. Half-sawn branches make excellent interior moldings.
- Thin wood slices are cylindrical and flat on both ends but much thinner than wood chunks. Thin wood slices are available in a variety of diameters. Thin wood slices may be small enough to make key chains or large enough to seat a table of 12.
