How to Sew in Track Hair Extensions

    • 1). Wash and condition natural hair. Use a blow dryer to dry hair or allow it to air-dry.

    • 2). Decide what type of hair style you'd like. Natural hair will need to be braided in a way that leaves some available to cover up the weave.

    • 3). Begin braiding the natural hair in cornrows. Braid the hair in a continuous cornrow braid if you're covering the weave with hair from the edges, or braid several cornrows going to the back if you're covering the weave with hair from the crown of the head. If natural hair is short, use extension hair for braiding to reinforce the cornrows.

    • 4). Place the sew-in track extension on top of the cornrow braid. For best results, start at the back of the head.

    • 5). Use a curved hair-weaving needle and heavy hair-weaving thread to sew the track extension onto the cornrow. Go over the track extension at least twice to be sure that the track is securely in place. Cut the track extension and thread once you're finished securing the track to the cornrow braid. Use thread that's the same color as the hair, recommends Black Women Beauty Central (black-women-beauty-central.com).

    • 6). Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all the cornrows have been covered with weave.

    • 7). Cover the weave with the natural hair that you left out around the edges or at the crown. Make sure that none of the cornrows or tracks is visible. Some human hair track extensions include a closure piece to attach to the crown of the hair. If provided, sew that into place.

    • 8). Style the new weave as desired.
