How to Make Refrigerated Neck Warmers
- 1). Fold your fabric rectangle length-wise so, the right sides of the fabric face each other. Use straight pins to pin the edges about every 6 inches, so the edges of the fabric stay together during sewing.
- 2). Sew a 1/2-inch seam along the long pinned edge and also along one of the short sides. Keep one of the short sides open. Clip the corners with your scissors so the corners don't bunch up when you turn the rectangle inside-out. Turn it inside out and press it if it has become wrinkled.
- 3). Use a yardstick to measure off 6-inch intervals of the rectangle. Mark these 6-inch lengths with chalk. You should have six smaller rectangles spanning the length of the long rectangle.
- 4). Pour 1 cup of rice into the tube and sew along the first chalk line. Sewing along the chalk line encases the rice in one section of the tube, keeping the rice evenly distributed along the length of the tube. After sewing the first line, add another cup of rice and sew along the second line. Continue this procedure until you reach the last chalk line, which should be 1/2-inch from the end of the tube.
- 5). Turn the last 1/2 inch of fabric under, using an iron if it helps to make an even edge. Use your sewing machine to stitch as closely to the end as possible. Backstitch several times over this seam to ensure the rice stays within the tube.
