Crafts with Cone Coffee Filters
- Use cone coffee filters to create realistic and colorful paper roses that will never wilt. A wooden skewer wrapped in green florist's tape is used for the rose's stem. Separate a couple of coffee filters along the seam and cut them in half. Cut two coffee filters off of the cone and wrap them around the stem to look like the beginning petals of the rose and glue them in place. Continue to wrap the coffee filters around the stem until the bloom is fairly large. Paint the blooms with watercolor paints. The bottom of the bloom is wrapped in florist's tape to blend it into the stem.
- A colorful garden decoration can be made from beads and coffee filters. Separate two cone coffee filters at the seam and either spray or paint them with diluted watercolors. Metal wire is used to form the body of the butterfly. Wrap the ring around your finger to form a base of the butterfly. Thread complementary colored beads onto the wire. Fold the coffee filters to create the wings and pinch the base so the wire can be punched through. Stack the second wing onto the first and press them together tightly with an elongated bead. Loop the wire around and stick the end through the head bead. Twist the wire around under the bead for a loop and over the bead to secure it in place.
- Personalized bath sachets can be crafted using coffee filters. Sew along the seam and the bottom of the cone so that the top is open. Crisply fold the edges of the filter so they're even with the sides. Fill the pouch with bath salts or dried herbs. Sew a ribbon in a loop around the top of the filter. Fold the top of the filter into the sachet and sew it closed to hold the contents inside. Add a tag to the ribbon to identify the sachets contents. The sachet can either be looped around the faucet or placed directly into the bath.
- A paper shamrock can be made for St. Patrick's Day to bring luck to your family. Paint a wooden craft stick green and glue it to a small plastic disk, such as a milk lid. Cut a heart shape into the top of four cone coffee filters. The four coffee filters are glued to the center of the milk lid to create a shamrock shape. Water colors or water dyed with food coloring can be brushed onto the coffee filters to turn them green. Leave them to dry before displaying the completed shamrock.
