Hold The Curtain The Staff Is Stressed
Hold The Curtain The Staff Is Stressed.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
We were all back stage and there was ice everywhere.
We had all just got in off the road and it was freezing ice, rain and snow.
We would have scrapped the show out but it was at a resort and everyone was already there.
Were we stressed? Oh Yes.
Everyone was stressed from the ice and snow.
The gear was wet, the magic show table was wet and the resort was warm which made everyone want to go to sleep.
No one wanted to work but as they say in show business, the show must go on.
So, we dried everything off and went to work.
We were about thirty minutes late with our set up.
The band was playing and we knew they would cover for us but they too were stressed.
We could see it and feel it.
We worked in a fit of panic.
Everyone was trying to get things done quickly and quietly too.
Picture this level of stress if you can.
All these things are adding up and creating even more stress.
We knew we would have to let go of some steam and we knew that in the end it would all turn out just fine.
Just as we got everything set into place the manager came in and started to tell us about some entertainers who walked out on him due to stress and he was always worried.
I assured him that we would not be stressed when we hit that stage.
You see, as an entertainer you need to have some skill when it comes to working with people and one of those skill sets is working when you are stressed.
Well, I should say working through your stress.
We all went into the dressing room and as we started to sit down I remember someone saying we have time for a tener.
Everyone on my show knew what a 'Tener" was.
That is the term we used for a quick ten minute meditation.
So we all agreed and I told the band to give us fifteen minutes.
We started to meditate and after about ten minutes all that stress was gone.
If you have not started to meditate, I urge you to try it.
I do it as often as I can and it makes my mind sharp and keeps my show fresh.
When we hit the stage we had the audience eating out of our hands.
Even the band was amazed.
If you are stressed, try it.
