How to Create Call Tones for iPhone
- 1). Open iTunes.
- 2). Add music to your library that you want to use for ringtones. To do this, click "File>Add File to Library" and then select a song. If you already have songs in your library that you want to turn into ringtones you can bypass this step.
- 3). Right-click the song and select "Get Info." Click the "Options" tab and put in the "Start Time" and "End Time" of the ringtone - in other words, the time in the song you want the ring tone to start and the time in the song you want the ring tone to finish. This should be 20-30 seconds long; any longer will not play and is a waste of space.
- 4). Check the "Start Time" and "End Time" boxes and then click "OK." Play the song to check if it starts and finishes the ringtone at the desired points of the song. If it doesn't, edit the time.
- 5). Right-click the song and select "Convert to AAC." This creates an AAC version of the song, which is compatible with the iPhone. (You'll still have the original MP3.) If you don't see the "Convert to AAC" option, go to "iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing" and change the import function from "MP3" to "AAC."
- 6). Go to "My Music" and double-click on the "iTunes Music" folder. You will see a folder with the name of the artist of the ringtone you just created. Double-click the folder and right-click the song. Select "Properties" and change the file extension from .m4a to .m4r. Click "OK" to save the file.
- 7). Add the file to your iTunes library by clicking "File>Add file to library" within iTunes. Now go to "Ringtones" and drag the call-tone song to the iPhone logo on the left side of the screen. The ringtone will now be added to the iPhone.
- 8). Right-click the original song in iTunes and select "Get Info" and then "Options." Delete the entries in "Start Time" and "End Time" and then click "OK." The original song will be restored and the call tone created will remain in the library.
