Hot Bath Vs. a Shower
- For relaxation hot baths and hot showers can each do the trick. Hot water works wonders on the body. But immersing yourself in a hot bath completely envelopes your body in hot water, helping you to relax and soothing away the aches and pains in muscles you may have accumulated from the day's stress and work. While a shower equipped with a massaging shower head can help to accomplish some of this same relaxation of muscles, the hot bath probably has the edge in this category.
- A shower provides an ever-flowing stream of clean water that washes over your body and then goes directly down the drain. Meanwhile, in a bath some people feel like they are soaking in their own filth. I suppose all depends on how clean you were when you entered the bath that really tells the tale. The constant supply of fresh water in the shower makes the water quality better than a bath in which a person soaks and remains. But there is also the ability to add bath salts or other additives to the hot bath water that will help relaxation and even provide skin benefits. Soaps or body washes are immediately rinsed off in the shower.
- For a quick wash there is no contest between the bath and the shower. Time is required to fill a bathtub, and soaking in a tub generally invites the bather to take her time. Sometimes she may even stay in the tub for an hour or more. A shower can be adequately completed in just a few minutes. So the shower is certainly more convenient for daily use.
- Washing your hair can be a problem in a bathtub. Rinsing is difficult for some people, depending on the position of the faucet, and the shampoo will just go right into the bath water. In a shower you can lather up your hair and rinse it easily, sending the shampoo suds down the drain without a problem.
- The water usage debate on baths versus showers is a tricky one. There is no way to say which is better. Which type of bathing requires less water depends on the length of time in the shower. A short shower tends to use less water than a tub full of water, but a longer shower can actually use far more water than filling a bathtub. So, in short, just do whichever you like. You can find an advantage or disadvantage that will justify the bath or shower for you.
