How to Reupholster a Wooden Chair
- 1). Turn the chair over so you can see the underside of the cushion.
- 2). Remove the four Phillips-head screws that hold the seat to the frame to lift the cushion off.
- 3). Insert the tip of an awl under the staples holding the fabric to the cushion. Tap the end of the awl with a hammer and pry the staples out one at a time to remove the fabric.
- 4). Lay the new fabric on the work surface with the print side down.
- 5). Center the cushion on the fabric and cut around it, leaving 4 to 6 extra inches on each side.
- 6). Pull the center of the bottom edge of the fabric up and around to the underside of the cushion and staple in place. Move to the top edge of the cushion base and staple the fabric tightly in the center in the same fashion. Repeat for the last two edges.
- 7). Secure the fabric along the perimeter of the cushion base with staples spaced 1 inch apart, stopping 2 inches before each corner.
- 8). Fold the fabric in small pleats to make the curve around the corner. Staple each pleat to hold in place. Repeat for each corner.
- 9). Place the re-covered seat cushion back onto the frame and reattach it with the same screws.
