Magnets

• Magnets are a fun salt dough project that is simple for children of all ages. Roll out the dough using a rolling pin or provide each child with a handful of dough to mold into whatever they like. Holiday magnets, such as ones for Christmas or Easter, are appropriate for a school project. Allow the magnets to air-dry or bake them in the oven at approximately 200 degrees F. Have the children paint their clay shapes before attaching small magnets to the back using a hot glue gun.
  
  

Beads

• Salt dough beads are a fun, easy project that can be used to make a variety of fun jewelry. Divide a batch of salt dough up into small pieces and roll the small pieces into balls. You can also roll the salt dough into a snake shape and use a knife to cut it into sections. Poke holes all the way through the beads using a toothpick or similar item and allow the beads to dry fully. Once dry, paint and seal the beads and use them to create necklaces and bracelets.
  
  

Paperweight

• Children will love making a special salt dough project for a friend or family member. Mix up a batch of salt dough and provide children with small, inedible items such as gravel or small shiny rocks. Instruct the kids to form a thick piece of salt dough in any shape they desire, such as a circle or rectangle. The small items are then stuck into the salt dough to form words, such as "Dad rocks," "I love you Mom," "World's best Grandpa" or "best friends forever." The paperweight can be painted once it is dry and presented as a handmade gift.
  
  

Holidays and Seasons

• Use salt dough to create seasonal and holiday projects. Appropriate for both the family and in the classroom, these creations can be used as decorations. Sculpt pumpkins and ghosts for Halloween, rainbows and shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day or snowmen and snowflakes for Christmas or the winter season. Flowers and ladybugs represent spring and will look great sitting in the garden. Allow the sculptures to dry fully before painting and sealing them to use around the home and school, or to give as gifts.
