How to Smooth Pool Plaster
- 1). Drain the water in your pool until you can access the area that needs new plaster.
- 2). Place a chisel over the area of plaster that needs repair. Hit the back of the chisel with a hammer to remove loose pieces. Otherwise, you won't be able to get the plaster smooth.
- 3). Continue chiseling to create a small hole in the plaster. Angle the hole outward so that the new plaster can be smoothed inside and stick better.
- 4). Add together plaster mix, acrylic bonding and water. Mix with your pool trowel until it's as creamy as peanut butter.
- 5). Fill a spray bottle with water, and spray the side of your pool that you chiseled out. The new plaster will smooth better over a damp surface.
- 6). Use the pool trowel to apply the plaster mix to the area. Push the plaster into the chiseled-out area to remove air.
- 7). Place one end of the trowel against the hard plaster and scrape it across the new plaster to smooth it.
- 8). Let the plaster set for 15 minutes. Repeat the smoothing process. Push harder at the edges so that the new plaster is smoothed perfectly against the old.
- 9). Continue spraying the new plaster with your spray while you fill up your pool. The plaster cures better and stays smooth if it remains moist.
