How to Spray Paint a French Window Door
- 1). Cover each pane of glass with newspaper and secure the paper down with painters tape. Make sure you do not cover any soon-to-be-painted surface with either the tape or the newspaper -- it is there only to protect the glass. Cover the knobs and hinges with painters tape as well.
- 2). Sand the surface of the door with your sandpaper so that the surface is roughened slightly. This will help the paint bond to the wood.
- 3). Clean off the sanding dust from the door's face.
- 4). Shake your spray paint can for two minutes to mix the paint thoroughly.
- 5). Hold the paint about 6 inches from the door's surface, then depress the spray button.
- 6). Move the spray paint slowly up and down the door's surface between the window panes. Do not worry about achieving a uniform color just yet, instead focus on setting down an even texture and not pooling the paint in one area.
- 7). Give the paint an hour to dry, then apply a second and third coat of spray paint as necessary.
- 8). Wait two hours for the paint to dry after the last coat, then remove the newspaper and painters tape.
