How to Make an Electric Solar Panel
- 1
Copper sheeting
Cut a square or rectangle from the copper sheeting with the sheers. - 2
Heat the sheet cutting until it is red hot using a gas burner, electric hot plate or even a blowtorch. The side that is not being "cooked" will form a coat of black oxide. For a large sheet, heat each section of the sheet in turn until the entire sheet is coated. - 3). Remove the black oxide with a plastic scouring pad. This will expose the reddish-pink oxide underneath. It is critical to be gentle and not use a harsh tool like a metal scraper to avoid damaging this red layer of oxide.
- 4). Coat the red oxide side of the sheet with a brush and a jar of silvering solution. Let it stand and dry for several hours.
- 5). Strip about half an inch of insulation from one end of a roll of electrical wire, and then split the wire into its negative (black) and positive (red) leads.
- 6
Soldering gun
Solder the negative lead onto the silvered/oxide side of the copper sheet, and then solder the positive side onto the clean side. - 7). Connect the panel's wiring to an inverter, controller or DC appliance. This may or may not require the wiring to be screwed into a plug first, depending on what it is attached to.
- 8). Place the panel into full sunlight. It will begin producing an electric current in seconds.
