How to Set Up DSL on Windows XP Professional

    • 1). Exit out of any windows that are open on your computer and click the "Start" button on your desktop. Click the icon labeled "Control Panel" in the XP Professional "Start" menu that appears.

    • 2). Click on the "Network and Internet Connections" icon underneath the "Pick a category" heading. Click on the "Network Connections" icon located on the screen that appears.

    • 3). Click on the "Create a new connection" icon in the "Network Tasks" section of the window that populates. Click the "Next" button when the connection setup wizard window opens.

    • 4). Select the "Connect to the Internet" option on the screen you are brought to, and continue by clicking the "Next" button. Choose "Setup my connection manually" on the next screen and proceed by clicking "Next."

    • 5). Specify how you will access your DSL connection by clicking the "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password" on the screen you are taken to. Enter the DSL provider's name in the "Connection Name" field and click the "Next" button to continue.

    • 6). Type in the account information that your DSL provider has given you in the "user name" and "password" fields. Click "Next" to continue and the setup process will be complete.

    • 7). Verify that all of the information displayed on the next screen is correct, and click the "Finish" button to create your DSL connection. Click the "Connect" button in the window that opens to connect to the Internet using the DSL connection you have set up in Windows XP Professional.
