How to Color Line Art

    • 1). Open a gray scale, scanned drawing in Photoshop. Select "Image" from the menu bar in the top of the program window. Select "Adjustments" and "Threshold" from the drop down menus. When the Threshold dialogue box pops up, click the slider to select the amount of threshold you would like to apply. The default is usually around 128, a level that seems to have the right balance of white and black for most drawings. Click "OK" and close the window. The drawing will now be separated into areas of black and white only, with no gray.

    • 2). Select the Lasso tool from the vertical toolbar that is usually located on the left side of the program window. Select the areas of the drawing you would like to color first. Complete the area to be filled by enclosing it. This is done by moving the tool across the image and stopping on the point where you started. A circle icon will pop up there to let you know the area can be closed.

    • 3). Select the color with which you would like to fill the area. The color palette can be opened by clicking the color square located at the bottom of the toolbar. Select the color you want and click "OK." Select "Edit" from the menu bar and then "Fill" from the drop down menu to fill the area with the color you have chosen. Repeat to color the entire image.
