Pink & Brown Baby Nursery Ideas
- Pink and brown are a sophisticated color combination.diagonal image by fotohansi from Fotolia.com
When traditional baby girl pink is paired with chocolate brown, the result is a rich, elegant look. Changing the saturation of either color or incorporating some touches of white changes the overall feel of the space. Together, pink and brown can take a baby's nursery in a modern or a vintage direction, depending on the other design elements of the room. - One of the least expensive and most transformative ways to bring color into a space is by painting the walls. All four walls painted a rich chocolate brown, with a pale pink ceiling and light gray trim, have one of the more dramatic effects. Four light pink walls trimmed in white or light gray call for a more minimal incorporation of brown: light pinstripes or various circles of the chocolate brown on one wall, or a lighter chocolate-colored ceiling keep the tone sophisticated without taking it over-the-top. Pale pink walls trimmed with dark brown is an understated look, especially if other elements in the room are pale pink, white or a light creamy brown. A chair rail gives you the option to divide the walls horizontally; using a rich brown on top portion and pink wainscoting on the bottom. The color saturation can be reversed as well---consider using cherry blossom pink or dark pink in combination with light brown for another take on the color scheme.
- In a pale pink nursery, it's possible to achieve the same chic look simply by using furniture made from dark brown wood. A wooden crib stained chocolate or espresso brown is the focal point of a light and airy girl's room---typically, a white crib would be used in such a space. The room design is further developed by a dresser, changing table or bookcase in the same dark wood. An overstuffed armchair could be upholstered in pink or brown, with the contrasting color carried through a tiny floral or geographic print. Contrarily, in a room enveloped by warm chocolate brown walls, white---or light pink---furniture provides the needed contrast. White shelving and picture frames stand out on dark walls, as do wall decals in light colors, such as a parade of pale pink elephants or pink butterflies with brown-veined wings.
- Small details can make the pink and brown theme more refined than obvious. In a light pink room with white trim and furniture, little touches stand out: tiny brown dots on the crib linens, brown fabric tiebacks for light pink curtains, or a pink lampshade trimmed in thin brown ribbon. Dark brown wicker baskets provide storage on a white bookshelf or changing table. A pink upholstered chair with contrasting chocolate brown piping fits the theme, as does a pink glass chandelier with brown polka dotted silk shades. The same holds true for a chocolate-colored room; white furnishings and small pink details translate more elegantly than bold declarations of pink. Incorporation of a darker pink and a lighter brown, whether in a fabric print or artwork, deepens the two-tone theme. An extra-large mural of a blossoming cherry tree, for example, brings white, pink, salmon-pink, red, a touch of yellow, dark brown and light brown into the space.
