How to Demolish a Countertop Backsplash
- 1). Run the utility knife along the top of the backsplash between the backsplash and the wall. This will cut and score the grout and any silicone that has been used to seal the tile to the wall finish.
- 2). Place the small crowbar or a flat head screw driver on the top of the backsplash between the backsplash and the wall. Gently tap the crowbar with a hammer or your hand to get the crowbar behind the backsplash.
- 3). Push a flat putty knife between the backsplash and the wall as far down as it can go. Gently pry the backsplash away from the wall. Slowly work your way down the length of the backsplash until the backsplash has separated from the wall finish.
- 4). Scrape any mortar or caulking off the wall with the putty knife or utility knife to clean the wall.
