    • The sugar pine tree produces the longest pine cone known to man. Sugar pine cones sometimes grow as large as 24 inches in length. The sugar pine tree received its name due to the sweet sap it produces. Indians used the sap as a form of glue, while others ate it like bubble gum.

    Time Frame

    • The sugar pine tree doesn't start producing its sugar pine cones until July or August. The cones become more prominent in late spring. Pollination starts in late May and continues until early August. Fertilization occurs roughly 12 months after pollination.
