How to Get Faster Speed in a Dial-Up Connection
- 1). Go to "Start" on your computer and then click "Control Panel," "System" and "Device Manager." This brings up a box that shows you a list of all of the devices on your computer.
- 2). Click on "Modems" and find the name of your modem in the list. Double-click on it. You will see the default speed settings on your dial-up modem.
- 3). Set the "Maximum Port Speed" to 115,000 bps (bits per second), or the highest setting allowed.
- 4). Look for "Flow Control" and select "Hardware."
- 5). Click on "Advanced" and set the Receiver Buffer all the way to the highest settings possible.
- 6). Save your changes and close the menu.
