How to Merge a PST File
- 1). Copy each of the PST files into a backup folder.
- 2). Rename the older PST to differentiate it from the newer version. If the files are both named example.pst, rename the older file to example1.pst.
- 3). Copy example1.pst to the directory where the working version of example.pst is located.
- 4). Select the "Tools" menu from the viewer window. Click "Options" and select "Services" from the tabs located in the dialogue box.
- 5). Click the line that says "Personal Information Store" in the new dialogue window and then click add.
- 6). Select the example1.pst and click OK.
- 7). Click OK in all of the following dialogue windows.
- 1). Expand the folders in the left pane of the main program window.
- 2). Click the "Inbox" folder from the example1 folder set in the left pane.
- 3). Select all of the messages in the example1 "Inbox" folder. This is accomplished by selecting the first message and pressing CTRL+A or holding down the SHIFT key and clicking on the last message.
- 4). Drag the selected messages to the "Inbox" folder of the destination folder set; "example" in this case.
- 5). Verify that the messages have been successfully moved by opening the "Inbox" folder of the example folder set.
- 6). Repeat these steps with each of the other folders which need to be merged with the example folder set. For folders that exist in the old copy but not in the new version, drag the entire folder into the destination folder set.
- 1). Select "Options" from the "Tools" menu and click the "Services" tab in the dialogue window that appears.
- 2). Select the second "Personal Information Store" line and click delete.
