Do you know anybody who always seem to remain cool, calm and collected when they are interacting with others? It seems like these people always have positive interactions with others and they never seem to get into any arguments.
Have you ever asked yourself what sets them apart from you? Well, the truth is that you too can learn how to peacefully engage in conversations with others just by doing certain things a certain way.
I have listed five things that you can do to help you to get along better with people and avoid getting into arguments.
The five things are: 1) Think before you speak 2) Listen more and talk less 3) Keep it positive 4) Talk in a calm tone and 5) Be friendly 1.
Think before you speak:
Many people get pulled into arguments because they say the first thing that comes to their mind without first thinking about how the other person may respond.
When you are engaging in a conversation, you must be able to chose the right words and not say the first thing that pops in your mind.
It is a good practice for you to count mentally to yourself from 0-5 before you speak.
This will give you enough time to think about what you have to say before you say it.
2.
Listen more and talk less:
A lot of arguments could be avoided if everyone was not trying to talk at the same time.
A good rule to follow is when one person is talking the other person should be listening.
You should never interrupt a person while they are speaking no matter how tempted you are and you should wait until the other person has completely finished saying what they have to say before you speak.
3.
Keep it Positive:
A lot of arguments occur because one person does not agree with what the other person has to say and that person feels the need to prove their point.
Instead of going back and forth with a person trying to prove that you are right and they are wrong, you should keep the conversation focused on things that you have in common.
4.
Talk with a calm tone:
Whenever you are in a conversation you should never raise your voice or seem too excited because you do not want to come across as being hostile and threatening.
You always want to make sure that you come across as being peaceful.
5.
Smile often:
You can set the tone of any conversation just by smiling and being friendly.
Have you ever noticed how much easier it is to talk to someone who is friendly verses talking to someone who has a frown on their face? When you smile, you will appear to be friendly and approachable.
