Definition:

The Vis sites are two peat bogs near Lake Sindor in the Vychegda basin of Russia, in which have been found the remains of worked wooden objects, including wooden skis and sledge runners.

Vis I is a Mesolithic site dated between 8300-7900 years old. In addition to skis and sledge runners, the terrific preservation in the bog recovered bows for hunting, conical arrow points, spears and throwing-sticks, fish trap hoops, an oar and a series of stakes.

Vis II contained a fish weir, dated to the much later Vanvizdino culture of between AD 400-600.

Both sites were excavated by G. M. Burov in the mid to late 1960s.
