5 Great Life Coaching Questions

There are a number of things you need to be able to do if you are to be successful as a  Life Coach but right at the very top is the ability to ask great questions. Every top Life Coach I have ever met has been brilliant at asking the right question at the right time.

Whereas there isn't a cookie cutter approach to this because every client is different, there are some killer questions that most Life Coaches will use from time to shift the thinking of their client. Today I'm going to share 5 of the best with you.

1. If money wasn't an object would you do that?

This question is designed to isolate an objection and specifically financial objections that may be raised by a client that is scared of pursuing their dreams because of money concerns. This question doesn't remove the objection but it does pin it down.

If the client says "no, I'd still not do it" then the Life Coach knows that it was a false objection and more investigating is needed to find the real reason they are holding themselves back. However, if the client says "Yes, definitely!" then you know that if you can solve the money issue you are well on your way.

2.    What else can that mean?

People can often get stuck in their patterns of thinking. This question is designed to help the client look at things differently. Sure losing your job could mean you lose your house and end up sleeping rough. Or it could mean you have an opportunity to start your own business which is something you have been wanting to do for a decade or more.

The Life Coach isn't trying to deny reality or pretend everything in the garden is rosy, but he is trying to create a solution focussed mindset and this question will usually deliver that.

3. What am I grateful for?

Even Life Coaches have days that suck and that's cool because it's part of life. however, if you can ask yourself on such days the above question it will shift your mindset. It is impossible to be in a state of gratitude and be feeling a victim and/or sorry for yourself at the same time

4. Who can help me?

When people set themselves a big goal or task they often get overwhelmed. They start to panic wondering how they will get everything done and will often constantly ask themselves the question "How can I do this?"

By subtly shifting the how to a who we open up a huge amount of potential. No matter what it is you want to achieve, there are people that can help you do it and if you ask this question regularly you will save yourself from a lot of stress whilst making the chance of succeeding exponentially more likely.

5. What can I learn from that?

One of the major differences between super successful people and the also rans, is the ability of the former to learn from their mistakes. You are human and as such you will make mistakes, that's just part of life. However, if you can take a lesson from each mistake or set back then you can incrementally improve your performance and view them as the invaluable learning experiences they are.
