• The biggest advantage of wind power is that it is pollution-free. It requires no fossil fuels to function and it generates no waste in the process of producing power. Because turbines are constructed out of relatively simple materials, there is less environmental impact to setting them up as well. Though wind turbines have been known to threaten birds who fly into them, studies suggest that the impact is negligible when compared to power lines and similar forms of high-rise construction.
  
  

Con: Spacial Considerations

• In order to be effective, a wind farm needs a number of wind turbines spread across a wide area. Not only can that prove to be an eyesore, but it also takes up a great deal of land. It also may require the removal of trees and other landmarks within that area to function. More traditional power plants, such as coal and nuclear plants, take up less space.
  
  

Pro: Independent

• Individuals can build their own windmills to generate electricity, which helps free them from dependence on other supplies of energy. That means if the power goes down, a home with an operating wind turbine will still be able to generate electricity. Furthermore, in remote locales, the cost of building a wind-turbine may be negligible when compared to the cost to link the house to the electrical grid through cables or power lines.
  
  

Con: Intermittent Production

• When the wind doesn't blow, wind turbines don't produce. This means they must often be augmented with other sources of power, which can reduce their effectiveness considerably. Even when the wind does blow, the overall speed varies wildly, which further influences the effectiveness of the technology.
  
  

Pro: Viability

• The potential of wind energy is vast: Scientists estimate that if we harnessed all of the wind power available across the globe, it could provide enough energy to meet all the world's energy costs six times over. Even a fraction of that potential is enough to meet any population's energy needs. When coupled with its renewable nature-the wind will always blow, whereas fossil fuels run out--the appeal becomes difficult to resist.
