How to Fix Surround Sound
- 1). Center the main seating position, parallel with the television or display. The display serves as the anchor for the front three surround speakers.
- 2). Place the center channel directly above or below the display, angled toward the main seating area.
- 3). Set the left and right main speakers approximately 2 feet from each side of the display, angled 45 degrees facing the main seating area.
- 4). Put the left and right side surrounds 90 degrees and parallel to the main seating area. If the surrounds are dipole or bipole in configuration, hang them 2 feet above the main seating area while maintaining the parallel orientation to the main listening position.
- 5). Set the rear surrounds -- if used -- to the rear of the listening position, placed close to one another. These speakers should be centered behind the seating area.
- 6). Place the subwoofer along the front wall, among the array of three front speakers.
- 1). Enter the receiver's setup menu, using the unit's remote. Consult the unit's manual for model-specific steps.
- 2). Place the receiver's calibration microphone on a tripod, centered at the main seating position. Allow the tone sweep, which tests the frequency of the speakers, to proceed through them. Repeat this process for the position 2 feet to the left, right, and in front of the main seating area.
- 3). Measure the distance from each speaker to the main seating area, making small adjustments -- if necessary -- to the settings made by auto-calibration. Exit the menu using the receiver's remote control.
