How to Change the Color of Levis With Dye
- 1). If you plan on dying your jeans a lighter color than they were originally, soak your jeans for 30 minutes in a half-water, half-bleach mixture to remove the color from the fabric. Wash the jeans afterwards to remove the bleach. If you plan on dying your jeans darker, bleaching is not needed.
- 2). Fill your bucket with three gallons of warm water. Mix in the dye you have purchased according the directions on the packaging. Typically, you will only need half of a package of dye for a single pair of jeans.
- 3). Wet your jeans and then drop them in the dye bucket.
- 4). Leave the jeans in the dye for 30 minutes, stirring your jeans often to make sure your jeans are dyed uniformly.
- 5). Remove the jeans from the dye and rinse with warm and then cool water until the water runs clear.
- 6). Wash the jeans by themselves before wearing to ensure all of the dye has been successfully removed.
