Are you trying to quit smoking? Have you tried everything, yet are still having a hard time kicking the habit? Smoking can be an extremely hard habit to quit. In fact, more than 75 percent of smokers who attempt to quit the habit are unsuccessful in their first try. In this article we will talk in more detail about one method, hypnosis, which many people have tried with great success in their effort to give up cigarettes for good.

Hypnosis, once thought to be nothing but a lot of "hocus-pocus," has become a very popular tool for helping people to quit the smoking habit. There are essentially two types of hypnosis therapy utilized for smoking cessation: conventional hypnosis and self-directed hypnosis. The first of these, conventional hypnosis, is where you would seek the help of a trained hypnosis specialist who would take you through the hypnosis process. This is the most popular form of hypnosis, but also the most expensive.

Self-directed hypnosis, much like the name implies, is a form of hypnosis which is self-administered, usually with the help of tapes, CDs and other aids. Self-directed hypnosis is a much more affordable option than conventional hypnosis, but it requires a lot of self-discipline and patience. Self-directed hypnosis can be very effective for the right type of person but has a lower success rate than conventional hypnosis.

The second form of hypnosis, at least as it applies to smoking cessation, is self-directed hypnosis. Like the name suggests, self-directed hypnosis is a process in which the therapy sessions are self-conducted with the help of some sort of outline and tapes. If you choose to use hypnosis to help you quit smoking, self-directed hypnosis can save you a lot of money in the long run, but you have to truly dedicate yourself to the program.

Smoking is not only a habit, but for most it is also a very powerful addiction. Smokers who attempt to quit on their own often report powerful cravings that are difficult to manage. Hypnosis can help address some of these cravings by putting smokers into a relaxed state of mind and giving them the power to resist the moment of craving. Because smoking is both a physical and psychological addiction, hypnosis is effective due to its ability to both relax the body and the mind.

If you're attempting to kick the smoking habit, keep in mind that most people who try to do it on their own are unsuccessful at first, but don't be discouraged. Studies have shown that a program which includes hypnosis or hypnotherapy as part of an overall cessation program is as much as 5 times more effective than a program relying strictly on other methods.
