How to Take Better Pictures With a Point & Shoot Camera

    • 1). Use a lens cleaning kit to clean the lens of your point and shoot camera for optimal clarity. Be sure the camera is off and the battery is removed so you don't accidentally damage the lens assembly.

    • 2). Use a tripod to stabilize the camera while taking a shot. Most cameras have a port on the bottom for tripods to be screwed into. If you don't have a tripod, use a solid surface like a box or a wall to take picture on.

    • 3). Use the viewfinder instead of the LCD screen whenever possible. The viewfinder provides a more accurate shot than the LCD does, and is less likely to give you a bad result with your picture.

    • 4). Press the shutter button down gently before taking the picture. You should feel the shutter stop halfway and the autofocus activating. This allows the camera to focus while you prepare your shot.

    • 5). Frame the picture so your main subject isn't dead center. Start by focusing on the subject with your autofocus using the procedure in Step 4, then quickly move the focus to another object and take the picture.
