How to Install Rear Speakers in a 1996 Maxima
- 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable using a crescent wrench. Set the cable away from the battery.
- 2). Locate and remove the four screws around each rear speaker in the trunk of the Maxima; use a screwdriver. This frees the speaker grilles inside the vehicle. Lift the speaker grilles away from the speaker.
- 3). Remove the screws securing each speaker from inside of the Maxima; use an off-set screwdriver. Lift the speakers from the rear deck.
- 4). Cut the wires going to each speaker. Take note of which wire is positive and which wire is negative. Expose a small section of bare wire at the end of each wire; use wire cutters to remove the plastic protective coating. Attach an aftermarket speaker-wiring-harness to each set of speaker wires; twist the ends of the bare wire together and wrap them in electrical tape. Plug each aftermarket wiring harness into the wire connections on the new speakers.
- 5). Insert the new speakers in each opening in the Nissan Maxima's rear deck. Secure the speakers with the screws removed previously, using an off-set screwdriver.
- 6). Replace the grille covers by setting them in place and securing them from inside the trunk.
- 7). Reattach the negative battery cable.
