How to Set up a TiVo to an Ethernet Phone

    Series1 TiVo

    • 1). Connect composite audio-visual cables from the TiVo's audio-visual output jacks to the television set's input jacks. Be sure to match the red, white and yellow plugs to the proper inputs and outputs on the TiVo and television.

    • 2). Plug the coaxial cable from the wall into the RF Input jack on the TiVo.

    • 3). Link the TiVo to your provider's cable/satellite box using composite cables and the IR Control Cable. Run the audio-visual cables from the TiVo's audio-visual input jacks to your provider's audio-video output jacks on the back of the box.

      Fasten the two ends of the IR Control Cable to the provider's receiver so that the two prongs protrude about 1 1/2-inches from the sensor. Plug the purple plug into the back of the TiVo.

    • 4). Run a phone line from the back of the VoIP adapter to your TiVo. Make sure the adapter is receiving a good signal from your modem or router.

    • 5). Power on the TiVo. During setup, the TiVo will ask you to input a telephone number to access service. Enter the number given by your provider.

      In some areas your normal telephone number may not work. In these cases, contact TiVo Technical Support at 877-367-8486 for further help.

    Series2, 3, HD and Premiere

    • 1). Connect the audio-visual jacks from the TiVo's audio-visual output jack to the television set's audio-visual input jacks. The Series2 will require composite cables, while the Series3, HD and premiere support component and HDMI.

    • 2). Plug the coaxial cable from the wall into the RF Input jack on the TiVo. Also plug in any CableCards necessary. CableCards are provided by the cable company and allows your TiVo to access your full channel lineup.

      Series2 TiVos will need to connect to a receiver from your provider. Link the TiVo to your provider's cable/satellite box using composite cables and the IR Control Cable. Run the audio-visual cables from the TiVo's audio-visual input jacks to your provider's audio-video output jacks on the back of the box. Fasten the two ends of the IR Control Cable to the provider's receiver so that the two prongs protrude about 1 1/2-inches from the sensor. Plug the purple plug into the back of the TiVo.

    • 3). Connect your TiVo to the Internet. You can do this by running a hard-line Ethernet cable from your router to the back of the TiVo, or you can purchase a TiVo Wireless Adapter to connect your TiVo to your wireless adapter.

      The Series2 TiVo will require the purchase of either the TiVo Wireless Adapter to connect to your home network or a USB network adapter. If you do not have wireless Internet, you can purchase a USB network adapter to connect the Series2 to your VoIP adapter via a phone line.

    • 4). Power on the TiVo. TiVo guided setup will ask you to select preferences and enter network passwords where applicable.
