If you are just starting to collect diecast model cars you would be wise to start by checking out magazines and books about diecast collectibles.
You will get an idea of what is available and what is popular in the market.
Of course it does not have to be popular if you just like the model, with no thoughts of ever selling from your collection.
A large number of collectors have started their collection with a diecast model of their first real car or one they always dreamed of owning.
My own collection began with a model of the 1958 Chevrolet Impala, the first car I owned.
My personal collection now revolves around my interest in the wonderful history of the automobiles and trucks of the early years.

Diecast collectibles can be found at yard sales and flea markets, I have spent many hours browsing these types of sales and found a great number of good deals.

Collector meets and auctions are another good source to find some good buys.
Now with the internet you have even more ways to find that special, diecast model car, truck or military vehicle.
Of the many sources available on the web E-Bay seems to be the favorite of many collectors.
As always research who you are buying from.
The collecting of diecast model cars can include so many forms you may have a hard time picking what you want to collect.
A few to think about would be NASCAR vintage diecast, diecast construction vehicles, military diecast vehicles, and diecast farm models just name a few.
The cost of collecting diecast models can be very modest or up to many hundreds of dollars.
The matchbox diecast models are a good place to start for the new collector as they are lower cost to buy and require a small amount of space to store or display.
Displaying your collection will require some thought of where to keep them clean and in good condition.
I use a closed display unit with glass doors for many of my collectibles, however you can also use plastic display boxes.
These display boxes can be found at reasonable cost to protect your investment.
Selling diecast collectibles can be a great way to offset the cost of your own collection.
I have been doing this for several years.
To be successful selling diecast models you must know the value of the collectibles you want to sell.
