The foundation of having a healthy self esteem lies in having a good enduring sense of yourself, and looking at yourself as a worthwhile and valuable individual.
This means that you can be able to appreciate yourself and treat yourself with compassion, without relying on other people's opinions of you.
Some good examples of a good and healthy self esteem include: 1.
Being able to accept yourself as you encounter failures in life.
For example, when you did not accomplish your monthly sales quota, you know that the issue at fault is not you as a person, but the work that you put in.
You do not blame your personal self for your failures, but only reflect on what you can do to make a situation better.
2.
Liking yourself, and loving what you do, as you strive for personal development.
If you practice this, you will appear to be happy everyday, and even though you may grumble about work or your boss, internally you are thankful for the situation you are currently in, and you know you have got there because of your own capabilities.
3.
Even at the end of a long term relationship, you know that you are still worthwhile and lovable.
Like it or not, relationships have a start and end.
When a long term relationship ends, you know and understand that the issue lies in all factors of the relationship, which includes the environmental circumstances and other communication factors.
You don't blame yourself personally for any break ups.
Unfortunately, people also have misconceptions about having a good self esteem.
One faulty assumption that many people make is this - they think that having a healthy self esteem makes them totally bullet proof to a crisis of confidence, or from unpleasant feelings, no matter what they are.
The truth is, no matter how strong your self esteem is, everybody faces times where their confidence wobbles, and experience negative emotions in times of crisis.
The big difference between one that has a good self esteem and one that doesn't, however is the ability to recover quickly from these crisis, and not let them affect you in the long term.
A healthy self esteem can do you a lot of good in the long run, whether its is in your career or personal life.
It is thus worthwhile pursuing techniques and strategies to improve your self esteem early in life.
