Jon Fitch vs. Marcelo Alfaya Results

Early in round one, Fitch landed a low kick.  Then he pressed his opponent into the cage wall.  Alfaya turned things around on him and netted a takedown- yep, I said that ALFAYA netted a takedown.  Moments later, Alfaya took his back.  And surprisingly, he had his opponent's arm caught in a figure four.  Fitch got his arm out but the big man kept his position.  Fitch got up some and slammed his adversary back into the canvas to no avail.

Eventually, just before the bell, Fitch escaped the position and got to his feet.  Then came the bell.

Round one goes to Alfaya.

Round two started very different.  Fitch took his opponent down quickly, evaded a leg lock attempt, and pounded on his adversary big time.  But Alfaya turned him over for a moment and took his back, only to watch Fitch escape, get to his feet, and press him into the wall.  From there came the knees.  Then Alfaya turned him into the cage, where Fitch shirked multiple takedown attempts before the bigger fighter took him down again.  Tried to take his back, and Fitch got up again.  While on their feet, Fitch landed an uppercut.  And then the two went at it, with Fitch connecting more, but Alfaya hitting harder.

That round was close.

The third round clearly went to Fitch.  First, he beat his adversary up some on his feet with sheer quantity of strikes.  Next, the former UFC fighter put Alfaya on his back and beat him up badly when there.  And finally, after an Alfaya takedown, Fitch turned things over on him and beat him up a little bit more.

That second round, one that Alfaya controlled more of, but Fitch was more impressive with at the end, will decide things.

Jon Fitch defeats Marcelo Alfaya by split decision.

Early on, Burkman landed a low kick.  In fact, both fighters looked to land kicks early, with Burkman connecting more.  Carl then pressed in looking for the clinch/takedown, only to watch Burkman turn the tables on him, pick him up, and put him on his back.  Carl got up soon after.  Carl shot in looking for the takedown soon after, and was put on his back with a trip for his efforts.  Sporadic ground and pound continued until the bell.

Burkman takes round one.

Carl shot in looking for the takedown early in round two, only to feel a potential guillotine on his neck, which forced him to drop into guard.  He got up soon after.  Though Burkman won some early striking exchanges, he was controlled after a Carl takedown and even found himself mounted at the tail end of the stanza.

Carl takes round two.

Early in round three, Carl gained the takedown and mounted his opponent.  Then he took his back.  Soon after, he sunk in the rear naked choke.  Burkman was in big trouble, but managed to somehow fight his way out of there.  After some scrambling, Burkman grabbed the guillotine and fell back with his adversary, landing on top of him.  Carl escaped the submission, but not the mount.  Then he escaped that position, but found himself in all types of lousy spots with Burkman up to the bell.

That was a close round.

But the 4th round was the one to watch.  Burkman ended up on top on the ground, which led to Carl sinking the triangle choke in.

Burkman appeared to tap, but the referee didn't see it, leaving the fan favorite out cold on the canvas soon after.

Steve Carl defeats Josh Burkman by triangle choke at 1:02 of round four.

Justin Gaethje vs. Dan Lauzon (Gaethje wins by 2nd round TKO): These guys came to fight in a big time way.  Gaethje hurt Lauzon with low kicks that literally dropped him to the ground in the first.  That along with a huge body punch and a nice spinning back elbow netted him the initial stanza easily.  In round two, Gaethje hurt his opponent to the legs again.  After that, he went up top with a crazy right hand that ended things.

Trust me when I say that this kid is someone to watch- he hits like a truck.

Marlon Moraes vs. Carson Beebe (Moraes wins by TKO in round one):  This was not a long fight, but it was an exciting one.  Beebe literally charged Moraes, looking to take him down and/or throw lots of punches at him.  Moraes shirked the takedowns and the two went at it.  But Moraes landed a big time left hand during the skirmish, which dropped Beebe in a clear way.  Fun stuff.
