What is the Definition of Success to You?
I have struggled with discovering for myself what I FEEL is the SUPREME definition of success? Is it a trophy on the mantle, or a prize you receive? Are lottery winners successful because they won a lot of money? Does success mean you are rich beyond your wildest dreams...
which is it? I have heard one man state what the definition of success is and it is the BEST definition I have heard: his name is Earl Nightingale and he coined the sentence: "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.
" Then the lottery winner isn't really successful because he probably doesn't have a worthy ideal, all he did was play the lottery for years and thought it possible he could win.
I am amazed at the amount of people that line up at the station or in malls to play the lotto.
Do they ever stop and think for a moment that anything worth receiving is worth working towards? And you know what they say; lottery winners usually always go back to their present lifestyle and way of living because they didn't have to change in order to collect the check! If success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal, what is your worthy ideal? What is it that you are working towards? Is it work that is fulfilling and enjoyable? Are you working towards having a wonderful relationship with your spouse? Is your worthy ideal have to do with spending more time with your family and being the number one influence in your son or daughters life? The next time you hear someone or see someone on the news talking about success, think again about its TRUE meaning.
Ask yourself, is this person working towards a worthy ideal, or does he/she just want the money, fame, power over others, or admiration? Till next time!
