How to Design a Christmas Hat

    • 1). Use a tape measure to determine the size of the child's head. Draw a half-circle on a large piece of red construction paper using a marker. Choose an 18-by-24-inch or 24-by-36-inch piece of paper, depending on the child's head size. Make the half-circle one or two inches longer than circumference of the child's head to overlap the paper. Cut along the half-circle line using craft scissors.

    • 2). Fold the construction paper to form a cone. Make sure the circumference of the bottom of the cone fits around the child's head.

    • 3). Staple or tape along the seams of the cone to form a Santa Claus-inspired hat.

    • 4). Cut a 1-inch-wide strip of white construction paper. Use craft glue to attach the paper around the bottom of the hat to create a decorative border.

    • 5). Glue a cotton ball to the top of the hat. Glue cotton balls to the white paper border to create a furry appearance. Personalize the hat by gluing plastic Christmas tree-shaped beads or stickers all over the hat if you desire.
