How to Tint Pictures

    • 1). Open the graphics software by clicking on the icon.

    • 2). Click the "File" tab and select "New." A pop-up will appear. Click "OK" to accept the preset commands. A blank workspace will appear.

    • 3). Click the "File" tab and select "Open." A pop-up will appear. Select the picture to edit. Click "Open." The picture will appear as a new workspace.

    • 4). Close the blank workspace created in the beginning of the tutorial. Click on the "X" tab at the top of the workspace area. This will close the workspace initially created when the program was first opened. The only workspace that should be open is the photograph to be edited.

    • 5). Click on the "Window" tab at the top of the screen. Select "Layer" to open the "Layers" window. This is where the picture will be stored. A layer is an image on top of another.

    • 6). Create a new layer from the opened photograph. Right-click on the picture layer and select "Duplicate Layer." A new layer will appear of the same image (picture) as the original. This will enable the editing of the picture without losing the original if a mistake is made to the original picture.

    • 7). Click the "Image" tab and select "Adjustments." Select "Hue/Saturation" from the drop-down menu. A pop-up will appear. Keep the presets "Default" and "Master."

    • 8). Change the "Hue" (color) of the picture to the desired color of tint.

    • 9). Drag the "Saturation" bar left or right to change the saturation of the picture. Saturation is the intensity of a color based on the full (bright) saturation or the dull (low) saturation. Dull saturation is the equivalent to chromatic purity (black and white).

      Scroll the "Lightness" bar to change the lightness of the picture. The lightness will change the appearance of the picture by changing the amount of either the black color or the white color depending on the desired lightness for the picture. Click "OK" when satisfied with the changes.

      Click the "File" tab and select "Save As." A pop-up will appear. Choose a name to save the file. Choose .psd (Photoshop) to keep the adjustments made to the picture. Click "Save." This will allow the photo editor to go back to the file and make any changes to the picture without the loss of any work.

      Click the "File" tab and select "Save As." A pop-up will appear. Choose JPEG to save the image as a photo image file. This will flatten the image and will allow the picture to be opened in any photo viewing software. Flattening the image will make the file size of the picture smaller which will take up less amount of space.
