How to Bond Plastic to Masonite
- 1). Lay the plastic and the Masonite across two sawhorses with the sides to be joined facing up.
- 2). Brush a coat of contact cement to both upward facing surfaces with a small paint brush. Get them completely wet with contact cement; make an even coat without any pooling of the cement. Let the cement dry for 20 minutes or until the cement feels dry to the touch.
- 3). Lay dowels across the Masonite 6 inches apart, parallel to each other. The ends of the dowels should overhang the end of the Masonite on both ends.
- 4). Lay the plastic on top of the dowels. Align and square the plastic to the Masonite where you want it glued. Pull all the dowels out one at a time, starting in the center and working to the edges. Allow the plastic to settle down on the Masonite as you pull out each dowel. It will stick on contact.
- 5). Lay the Masonite and plastic down on a flat surface. Gently thump down on the plastic with a rubber mallet. Hit it gently repeatedly all over the surface to seal and bond the plastic to the Masonite.
