LCD-Based Projects

    Televisions

    • A number of commercial high-definition television projects employ LCD technology. The relatively thin nature of LCD makes it suited to use in flat-screen televisions. LCD technology is also capable of displaying high-definition programming. Therefore, companies such as Toshiba use the technology heavily in HDTV projects. In 2010, Toshiba has placed a new energy-conserving LCD HDTV project on the market. These televisions are Energy Star-qualified and environmentally conscious products. Toshiba LCD HDTVs have 19-to-55-inch screens.

    Computer Monitors

    • Commercial computer projects are often based around LCD technology. As with LCD televisions, computer monitors employ the technology for its relatively thin construction. In October 2010, online technology magazine CNET ranked the top five LCD-based computer monitor projects commercially available. Among them are the Dell UltraSharp U2711, NEC MultiSync PA271W and HP DreamColor LP2480zx. The HP DreamColor LCD monitor is also a designated CNET editor's choice project. Another CNET article suggests that using one of these LCD computer monitors in place of an LCD television will save consumers money.

    Airplane Displays

    • In the summer of 2010, British aviation and military technology magazine publisher Shephard Group announced a new LCD-based project from Russian inventor and industrialist Vladymir Rogov. The Rogov project developed an LCD-based monitor-and-camera system for unmanned commercial planes that is purported to improve the functionality of unmanned aircraft. Other airplane cockpit displays that employ LCD technology include the display screens developed by companies, such as Avionics.
