Corner Headboard Ideas
- Foam board is one of the most versatile decorating tools available. It's lightweight, fairly easy to cut to size and available at any craft store. Two pieces of foam board, two pieces of matching fabric, a staple gun, hammer and decorative nails are all you'll need for this project. Lay the fabric face down on the floor or table, place the foam board on it, pull one edge of the fabric up at a time and staple it to the foam board, wrapping it like you would a present. Using the decorative nails, hang one piece of fabric-covered foam board on each wall with sides touching in the corner.
- Two richly textured, colorful tapestries can create a headboard and become the decorative focal point of the bedroom, the items around which everything else is designed. Simply slip the tapestries onto a decorative rod and hang, one on each wall in the corner.
- Room dividers come in a variety of sizes, fabrics, finishes and designs. For the purpose of a corner headboard, you'll need a room divider with either four or six panels. Take the hinges off in the center. The idea is to have an even number of panels on each side. Pull the bed away from the wall, press the room divider panels against the wall and push the bed back into place. If your bed isn't very heavy, you can anchor the panels to the wall with anchor nails.
- Fabric, scissors, four cafe rods and fusible hemming tape are all you'll need for this headboard project, along with a piece of fabric that you like and that coordinates with the rest of your room design. Cut two pieces of equal size, each about twice as wide as you want them to be on the wall. Make a seam along three edges by using fusible hemming tape. At the top of each piece of fabric, make the seam large enough to accommodate a small cafe rod. Hang cafe rod brackets about an inch above the top of your mattress on either side of the wall corner. Hang another set of rod brackets directly above these brackets, about 48 inches up. Slip the cafe rod through the large seam of the fabric, and gather the fabric tightly onto the rod. Hang the finished panels in the brackets for a finished look.
- Peel-and-stick tiles come in all colors, sizes and design styles. Vinyl or wood can be used to create the shape of a headboard on each side of the corner, as can recycled paper tiles. These paper tiles are highly textured, colorful, lightweight, inexpensive and fairly easy to apply.
- Salvaged window frames are available at estate sales, antique stores and shops that deal in recycled materials. If you can find two frames of the same size, paint them to match, use a staple gun to attach wallpaper or fabric squares to the back and hang on the wall. Anchor them securely with anchor nails or screws as they can be quite heavy.
- For a homey, country look, simply hang white garden lattice on the wall behind the bed. Garden lattice is relatively inexpensive, lightweight and can easily be cut to size with a saw.
