How to Create a Great Logo
- 1). Focus on the message you want your logo to convey. Decide what you need to communicate and stay true to your purpose while developing your logo.
- 2). Write down a list of imagery words and colors that convey your company’s name or product. For example, if your business is Seattle Flowers, your list of imagery words might include Space Needle, water, boats, mountains, flowers, green and blue.
- 3). Evaluate the logos of other companies in your industry. Note the similarities in fonts and image use. List how you want to differentiate your logo design from your competition’s logos.
- 4). Keep the design simple, clean and functional. Do not use graphic effects such as shadows, glares or photo imagery. Icons work better than photographs, which become indecipherable when enlarged or reduced significantly.
- 5). Add color to your logo. Colors and shades of color evoke emotion in people. Refer to your list of imagery words and colors.
- 6). Select a font that captures the essence of your company. Test different typefaces and styles with your logo design, in various sizes and weights.
- 7). Reproduce your logo in black and white for use in newspaper advertising, faxes or one color printing. Design your logo to be used on light and dark backgrounds, textured surfaces, and in various sizes to ensure it retains its integrity.
