How to Remove Ceramic Tiles From Drywall
- 1). Spread tarps on the floor around the bottom of the wall. Cover any nearby fixtures that can't be removed, such as sinks or cabinets.
- 2). Dig out the grout lines around one tiles, scraping at the grout with your grout saw. Push the blade forward and back over the grout surface repeatedly, getting to the base of the tile on all four sides.
- 3). Set your chisel into the extracted line, with the tip of the chisel against the base of the tile. Hold the chisel at a shallow angle (about 30 degrees). Gently tap the back of the chisel with your hammer to loosen the tile from the wall. Continue until the tile pops out.
- 4). Chisel at the base of the surrounding tiles from the open space on the wall that you've created. Work your way out in all directions, knocking out the tiles one by one, by breaking their mortar bonds with the wall. Try to keep each of the tiles in one piece as you extract them. Take them all out.
- 5). Go over the wall with your painting scraper to take up the remaining tile mortar or adhesive.
